Emerging Sports Trends: What's Next After Pickleball?

Let’s get one thing straight here: the Pickleball craze is still very much alive and well! But while pickleball is still a popular sport, you can also jump on several other emerging sports trends as an early adopter, including a few sports that are becoming popular again.

At C&C Courts, we love watching new sports become popular, so let’s take a look at some of the newest sports in Wisconsin that are getting more popular.

Disc Golf

Disc golf is not a new sport, but it is seeing a resurgence in popularity. It is a competitive game in which frisbees and metal baskets represent the “holes.” Like golf, disc golf players want to reach the hole in the fewest throws.

More and more disc golf courses are being built in parks and recreational areas, helping the popularity grow. Disc golf is inexpensive, as the only equipment you need is a series of special frisbees. This game is perfect for players of all ages, and families and friends can have a great time walking through beautiful parks while completing each course hole.

FootGolf

Another variation of golf includes FootGolf. This sport combines elements of soccer and golf. Rather than hitting a ball with a club, you kick the soccer ball into the larger hole to score. It has grown as an alternative sport that is enjoyed by soccer and golf enthusiasts alike. Plus, FootGolf can be played on existing golf courses simply by adding appropriately sized holes for the soccer ball.

Padel

Another newer sport that has emerged is Padel. It is a racket sport that combines elements of tennis and squash. It recently made its way to the United States from Europe, and many people are jumping on this trend. It’s an easy game to learn and provides plenty of competitive fun.

Padel requires a special padel racket, a ball, and a padel court. The ball must be served over the net and land within the correct boundaries, and the ball must hit the ground before it can be returned. The way padel is different from tennis or pickleball is that you can use the walls around the court to bounce the ball to the other side.

Spikeball (Roundnet)

Spikeball is another sport gaining in popularity. It is played with a small, circular net that is placed at ankle level. Teams of two players take turns hitting a small ball into the net in a way that makes it difficult for the opponents to return.

This is a fun, fast-paced game and is suitable for beaches, parks, and backyards. There are professional tournaments and a growing community of enthusiasts.
